The Ultimate 79 Series Coil Conversion Build – Australia’s Largest Legal 5-Inch Lift on 37s

Why 79 Series Coil Conversion Changes Everything

If you own a 79 Series LandCruiser, you already know it’s built like a tank. But Toyota’s decision to stick with leaf springs out back has always been a weak link—great for load-carrying but rough as guts on and off the road. That’s where Superior Engineering’s Outback Tourer Coil Conversion Kit comes in, delivering the ride quality and flex that this beast truly deserves.

This beast now rides on Superior Engineering’s 5-inch coil conversion, legally clearing 37s while delivering unmatched flex and comfort.

The Key Benefits of a Coil Conversion

  • Ride Comfort – Leaf springs are great for hauling loads but turn your spine into an accordion over corrugations. The coil conversion smooths out the ride significantly.

  • Flex & Off-Road Capability – Superior’s triangulated 4-link design provides more flex, better articulation, and improved traction.

  • Stronger Rear End – The Chromoly Track-Corrected Diamond Diff Housing not only brings the rear track in line with the front but also delivers unmatched strength with RCV 300M axles as standard. With a 3150kg rear axle load rating and a lifetime warranty against bending, this setup is built to handle the toughest terrain without compromise.

  • Street Legal on 37s – Legally running 37-inch tyres while maintaining a 4000kg GVM is game-changing, but it's not just about tyre size—you need a load-rated wheel and tyre setup to suit that upgraded GVM. For this build, we’ve gone with Method 312 HD (17x9 -12) wheels wrapped in Yokohama Geolandar G005 X-MT (37x13.5R17s), ensuring strength, durability, and full legal compliance.

  • Adjustability – Pick your poison with Standard, Superflex, Hyperflex or Billet Series 7075-T6 Radius Arms to match your driving style.

Suspension & Steering Upgrades

This 79 series coil conversion isn’t just about comfort—it’s about making the 79 handle better than ever while keeping it tough enough for serious off-road use.

  • 5-inch lift kit – Australia’s Largest Legal Pre-Registration Lift for 79 Series. Extra clearance for bigger tyres and tougher tracks.

  • Billet Series Drag Link and Tie Rod – Because precision steering matters when you’re navigating gnarly tracks.

  • Adjustable Panhard Rod – Keeps that diff aligned no matter how much lift you run.

  • Superior 2.5" Remote Reservoir Shocks – Better heat dissipation and damping control, making light work of big hits. For even more precision, you have the option of upgrading to the Superior 2.5 ECDS Shocks, which feature an Electronic Controlled Damping System (ECDS) for up to 100-stage compression adjustment with a simple turn of the dial on the in-cab controller.

  • Speedo Correction Module – Keeps the speedo accurate when running larger tyres.

  • Double Diaphragm Brake Booster & Braided Brake Lines – Because stopping is just as important as going. The cherry on top - Superior's own patented handbrake upgrade kit.

Track-Corrected Chromoly Diamond Diff Housing

The biggest issue with 79 Series LandCruisers is Toyota’s rear track width—it’s narrower than the front, which affects handling and stability. The Superior Chromoly Diamond Diff Housing corrects this issue, bringing the rear track in line with the front while giving you a tougher, stronger rear end. Load-rated to 3,150kg, it’s the strongest 79 Series rear diff housing on the market and is backed by a lifetime warranty against bending or cracking. Additionally, the Superior Engineering kit includes a diff breather kit extending your diff breathers into the engine bay, preventing water from entering and ensuring your vehicle can tackle challenging terrain without worry.

Flares & Bullbar for Maximum Clearance

  • Fiberglass Extended Flares – Custom-designed to keep those 37” tyres covered.

  • Superior No-Hoop Bullbar – Winch-compatible and designed for maximum clearance, this wider-than-stock bar allows for 37s with zero compromise, all while staying ADR compliant.

Is This the Toughest 79 Series in Australia?

If you’re chasing next-level off-road capability while staying street-legal, this Superior 4x4 coil conversion build is hard to beat. Whether it’s hardcore rock crawling, remote touring, or just flexing in the Bunnings car park, this rig does it all.
