GMC Yukon in Australia: V8 Power and Luxury Set to Challenge the LandCruiser

It looks like Australia is finally getting a piece of the GMC action. In 2025, General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) will be bringing the GMC Yukon Denali, a beastly American SUV loaded with a 6.2-liter V8, straight to Aussie shores. And it’s not just a big SUV—it’s GMSV’s shot at the Toyota LandCruiser and Nissan Patrol crowd, going after anyone who wants serious off-road power, towing capability, and undeniable presence on (and off) the road.

A Heavy Hitter in the Large SUV Segment

Only the top-of-the-line Denali trim is coming Down Under, which is why we’re expecting a price tag that’s likely to start around $150,000. That’s right in the ballpark with premium 4WDs like the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Sahara ZX and the Lexus LX, so this Yukon will be rolling with the big guns. For that price, you’ll be getting a lot more than the badge—this SUV is all about size, power, and serious towing capability.

The Yukon is imported as a left-hand drive, but Walkinshaw will handle the conversion for the Australian market, making sure it’s road-ready for Aussie drivers.

More Muscle Where it Counts: Engine Power and Towing Capability

Under the hood, the Yukon Denali flexes a 6.2-liter V8 pushing out 313kW and 624Nm. It’s got a 10-speed auto transmission and four-wheel drive, making sure all that power is spread out evenly on and off the bitumen. If you’re comparing engines, the LandCruiser’s 3.3-litre V6 diesel and the Nissan Patrol’s upcoming 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 don’t quite match up to the sheer grunt of the Yukon’s V8.

When it comes to towing, GMSV is promising “best-in-class” capability—hopefully over the 3500kg standard in the LandCruiser and Patrol, closer to the 4500kg range like the Chevy Silverado. That’s a huge draw for anyone needing to haul a big caravan or boat.

Size Matters: Yukon Brings Big to Australia

The Yukon is a giant compared to the already large LandCruiser and Patrol. We’re talking 5338mm long, 2060mm wide, and 1923mm tall with a 3071mm wheelbase—meaning it’s got more interior space and an even bigger road presence. It also fits eight people with its second and third-row bench seats, so if you’re hauling family, friends, or a bunch of gear, you’re well-covered.

Is the GMC Yukon Ready for Australia’s Wild Side?

GMC is putting serious effort into making the Yukon Australia-ready, but it’s still a big shift from America’s highways to our rugged, varied terrain. GMSV has hinted that the Yukon has been tested to handle Australian conditions, but its ultimate challenge will be the Outback and Australia’s demanding off-road culture.

The 2025 GMC Yukon is set to launch in Australia by the second quarter of next year, aiming to shake up the premium SUV market. If you’re looking for power, presence, and enough towing capacity to handle the big toys, the Yukon might just be the next big thing in Aussie SUVs.
