When we got our hands on this RAM 1500, we knew it had potential—but we also knew it needed some serious upgrades to handle Aussie conditions. The stock setup might be fine for the average driver, but if you’re towing heavy loads, hitting off-road tracks, or just want a more capable truck, there’s plenty of room for improvement.

So, we gave it the full BAW treatment—fixing known weaknesses, beefing up performance, and making it look as tough as it drives. Here’s how we turned this RAM 1500 into a serious workhorse with head-turning style.

Chassis Bracing – Because RAM 1500s Need It

One of the biggest issues with the RAM 1500 DT is its chassis. These things have a habit of bending or even cracking, especially under heavy towing or off-road stress. And this wasn’t just a theory—we saw it firsthand. This truck had only 25,000km on the clock, and the chassis was already starting to crack.

To fix this before it became a real problem, we added Superior Engineering’s chassis bracing. This reinforcement stops the flex, giving the RAM the strength it should have had from the factory. If you own a RAM 1500 and tow heavy, this is a must-have upgrade.

Fuel Tank Upgrade – Because 85 Litres Won’t Get You Far

One of the biggest complaints RAM owners have? The tiny factory fuel tank. The stock 85-litre tank is fine for city driving, but if you’re heading off-road or towing, you’ll be stopping at every servo along the way.

We fixed that by installing a 190-litre Brown Davis long-range tank, more than doubling the driving range. Now, this RAM can go the distance—whether it's hauling a caravan across the country or hitting remote tracks where fuel stops are few and far between.

Exhaust Upgrade – Because a V8 Should Sound Like One

The 5.7L HEMI V8 is a beast, but let’s be honest—the factory exhaust makes it sound like a sewing machine. That’s not good enough.

We fixed that with a 3-inch catback system from Exhaust Systems Australia, finished off with black chrome tips. Now, this RAM sounds like it should—deep, aggressive, and ready to turn heads.

More grunt, more attitude! The black-tipped 3-inch exhaust not only sounds the part but gives the BAW RAM a meaner look and better performance.

GVM Upgrade – More Payload, Same 4.5T Towing

Stock RAM 1500s have decent payload numbers, but once you start loading up with accessories, tools, or a canopy setup, things can get tight. To make sure this rig could handle serious weight, we installed a Tough Dog GVM Upgrade.

  • 4,000kg GVM – Increased legal carrying capacity

  • Maintains 4,500kg towing – No compromise on hauling power

  • Stronger axle loads – Better weight distribution and handling

This isn’t just about staying legal—it’s about making the RAM more capable for real-world use.

With the Tough Dog 4000kg GVM upgrade, this RAM is ready for whatever you throw at it—towing, touring, or tackling the toughest tracks.

Wheels & Tyres – Built to Handle Anything

RAMs roll off the showroom floor with 20-inch rims and road tyres. Great for city cruising, but useless for off-road work. We swapped those out for 18-inch Method 305 HD wheels, rated to 1651kg each, finished in a custom BAW Gold colour.

Wrapping them? Yokohama Geolandar X-ATs—a tyre that gives excellent grip on- and off-road without sacrificing ride comfort.

  • Smaller wheels = more tyre sidewall for better off-road capability

  • Method 305 HDs = stronger than stock rims, load rated

  • Yokohama Geolandars = grip everywhere, comfort on the road

It’s the perfect balance of strength, style, and performance.

Strength meets style! These Method 305 HDs, load-rated to 1615kg, got the custom gold treatment—because tough should still look good.

Roller Cover Upgrade – Smarter, More Secure Ute Storage

Factory tonneau covers do the job, but they’re far from the best. That’s why we ditched the stock Toro cover for the HSP Roll R Cover—a fully retractable, smart tonneau system that gives you next-level convenience and usability.

Unlike bulky alternatives, the HSP Roll R Cover features the smallest canister on the market, maximizing every inch of tub space. It’s fully retractable, giving smooth, hassle-free access to your gear while keeping it protected when needed. It comes also with a full-width LED light for better visibility at night.

Oh, and did we mention it integrates seamlessly with HSP load bars and Yakima platforms? More storage, better protection, and smarter functionality—all in one sleek setup.

Final Thoughts – A RAM That’s Built Right

Stock RAM 1500s are good, but with the right upgrades, they can be next level.

With chassis bracing, a GVM upgrade, bigger fuel capacity, better wheels & tyres, and a real exhaust, this RAM is stronger, tougher, and more capable than ever. Whether it’s hauling a big load, hitting the tracks, or just looking good while doing it, this RAM 1500 is built for the job.
