We Love a Full Ford Ranger Build: Breaking Down Brent's New Favorite 4x4

A highly modified Ford Ranger 4x4
This amazing Ford Ranger Wildtrak build just took the top spot in our favourite Ranger builds.

At BAW Automotive, we’re no strangers to top-tier 4x4 builds, but there’s something uniquely satisfying about transforming a Ford Ranger into a fully-equipped beast. Recently, we had the pleasure of working on a Ford Ranger Wildtrak sent to us all the way from Victoria, and Brent can’t stop raving about it. Here's a few reasons why we love doing a full build on a Ford Ranger, what makes these utes the ideal canvas for off-road magic, and why this Wildtrak might be our best yet.

The Allure of a Ford Ranger Full Build

Ford Rangers have become a favorite platform for serious 4x4 enthusiasts in Australia, and it’s no mystery why. With a rugged design, reliable engine options, and compatibility with just about every aftermarket part under the sun, they’re the perfect match for a builder’s imagination. This Wildtrak rolled into our Brisbane workshop for a hefty set of upgrades, similar to our own BAW Next Gen Ranger. By the end, though, it was fully equipped for everything from remote touring to intense off-roading—and might have even one-upped our own build.

Highlights of Our Latest Ford Ranger Build

Here’s a rundown of some standout features that make this Wildtrak one of the most adventure-ready Ford Rangers we’ve worked on:

  1. The Armour: Hamer Bullbar, Side Steps, and Rear Bar A powerful Ford Ranger starts with protection. This build features Hamer’s bullbar, side steps, and rear bar, offering unmatched off-road resilience and giving the Ranger that rugged look that says, “ready for anything.”

Barwork really elevates any build and adds the protection you need on every side.
  2. Light Up the Trails with Laser Spotlights Those late-night off-road adventures just got a whole lot brighter. Our build included high-performance Laser spotlights, making visibility in remote, dark areas a breeze.

  3. Rescue-Ready with a Runva Winch A serious 4x4 build needs a serious recovery system. The Runva winch integrated into this Ranger’s setup ensures that even the toughest situations won’t keep you stranded.

  4. Ready for Any Terrain: ROH Crawlers with Mickey Thompson Baja Boss Tires Equipped with ROH Crawler wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson Baja Boss tires, this Ranger can tackle any terrain with confidence and stability, keeping it firmly grounded wherever it goes.

  5. GVM Upgrade for Heavy Loads A GVM upgrade is essential for builds that include heavy-duty touring setups. Now, this Ranger’s load capacity can handle all the equipment and supplies needed for longer trips and tougher trails.

  6. Breathing Easier with the Safari Armax Snorkel and Manta 3” Exhaust Increased airflow is crucial, especially in dust-heavy Australian conditions. With the Safari Armax snorkel and Manta 3” DPF-back exhaust, this Ranger’s engine is set up to handle extended off-road drives, dirt roads, and creek crossings with ease.

  7. Ultimate Touring Package: BushTucker Kitchen, Fridge, and Induction Cooktop A complete touring setup needs a proper kitchen, and we didn’t cut any corners. This Ranger boasts a BushTucker 1200L slide-out kitchen, a 60L Engel fridge, and a Safiery induction cooktop, making it ready for days—or even weeks—off-grid.

  8. Off-Grid Power: Lithium Battery System, Redarc Inverter, and Redarc TVMS Rogue With a 400a/h lithium battery, Redarc 3000W pure sine wave inverter, and the Redarc TVMS Rogue, this build has the power to support lights, appliances, and any tech gear you’d want on the road.

  10. Custom BAW Roof Rack and Smart Storage Solutions The final touches are in the storage solutions. Our custom BAW roof rack provides flexibility for storing extra gear, while the custom BAW drawer system design and water tank add functionality for a seamless camping experience.
